We have now accumulated so much debt in many cities and states, that they are unable to meet their obligations. Each day, the news brings further word that pension and labor costs associated with many public employees have reached unsustainable levels. Yet, efforts by those in position to do something about it, like suspending collective bargaining and cutting the odeous fat associated with these same municipalities, are being derided as attacks on working people, or "Hitlerian," or "evil." It seems those feeding at the public trough are utterly shameless in their expectation that the gravy train should just keep on rolling along. They insist that raising taxes is the answer to the deficits, even in a state like California that is already the highest taxed state in the nation in virtually every category.
Their hubris is stunning; the lack of logic and scope of their greed is colossal. While those in the private sector labor away without any of the protections and entitlements shared by the public sector, they are told that they should pony up even more to feed the gluttonous appetite of government workers. The collapse of our economy is apparently just not their concern.
